2023年3月18日、2022（令和4）年度外国語学部英語学科の学位記交付を12号館12502教室にて行いました。

英語学科主任の大和 隆介 教授から、英語専攻の卒業生には学位記が、そしてイングリッシュ・キャリア専攻の卒業生には、学位記とイングリッシュ・キャリア専攻修了証が手渡されました。

Many of you who read this will be familiar with how graduation ceremonies look and feel from the perspective of the graduating students and their family members. Let me share with you how the English Department teachers experience Graduation Day. The overwhelming feelings are surprise and wonder, pride, and happiness. Let me explain why we feel these things.

First, why do we feel surprised and filled with wonder? During their final year, our students already have most of the credits they need to graduate and don’t take many classes. They are also very busy job hunting. During this final year, when we rarely meet them, it is amazing how they turn from students into young adults. And on Graduation Day, it is hard at first to recognize these grown-up young people in their gorgeous kimonos and smart suits. But we feel immensely proud of who they have become and what they have achieved.

上の英文では、当日の様子を教員の視点からお伝えしています。
これまでの学びと体験を通じて立派に成長した姿に、教員一同大きな喜びを感じたことや、ラボレット准教授によるゲーム形式のアクティビティの様子などを綴っています。この企画は、教員からの英語の祝辞をクイズにして、誰からのメッセージかを推測するというものでした。正答率がとても高く、卒業生が教員のことをよく理解してくれていたことが伝わり、これまで互いに築いてきた絆の強さを再確認しました。

卒業後も、皆さんからの便りが届くことを英語学科の教員一同、心待ちにしています。
