わが研究所は、日本文化を学際的・総合的に研究することを目的として、本学創立三十周年にあたる平成七年（一九九五）四月設立された。

わが研究所は、古代以来の東洋文化および近世以降の西洋世界からの影響も含む、すべての時代にわたる日本文化の諸様相を研究の対象とする。

わが研究所は、さまざまな分野からの英知を総合して学術的に研究を進め、国際的にも重要な活躍のできる人材の育成に寄与するよう努める。

わが研究所は、主要な活動として、日本文化に関する実証的な調査研究、内外の研究機関などとの学術交流、所報・紀要や研究報告書の刊行、研究会や公開講座の開催などを行う。

This institute was founded in 1995 to conduct interdisciplinary and comprehensive studies on all aspects of the Japanese culture, both the historical aspects as well as the varied facets of the modem culture.

The institute encourages scholarship on all eras in Japan's history, including the influence of the Chinese culture and, more recently, of the European world.

The institute endeavors to integrate insights from all academic disciplines, to promote research and scholarship and to provide an avenue for fostering future scholars on international field.

The institute's main activities include research on Japanese culture, academic exchanges with research institutes in Japan and abroad, publication of books and periodicals, and organization of lectures and open classes.
