研究テーマ
①現在、京都産業大学グローバルコモンズのような言語センターの業務に関心を持っています。言語センターにはどのような任務がありどう遂行すべきなのか、学習者や教員に対してどのようなサービスが提供できるか、日米の言語センターの類似点・相違点を知ることによってお互いから何が学べるか、などが具体的なテーマです。
②デジタルテクノロジーを用いることによって、言語学習者へのフィードバックの即時性をコントロールすることができるようになります。では、フィードバックを与える理想的なタイミングはいつなのでしょうか。早ければ早いほど良いのか。フィードバックの種類と即時性は相互作用するのか。このようなことに興味があります。
1) I am interested in language centers, such as the Global Commons at KSU. What are their mandates, and how do they fulfil them? How do they benefit language learners and teachers? How are US and Japanese language centers similar and different, and what can each learn from the other?
2) When digital technologies are used in language learning and teaching, the immediacy of the feedback provided to learners can be controlled. What is the best timing to provide feedback? Is more immediate feedback always better? How does the type of feedback interact with the immediacy?

プロフィール
出身はアメリカのミシガン州で、初めて来日したのは2002年です。3ヶ月福井県で過ごした後、東京で約3年英語教師の仕事をし、アメリカで大学院に入りました。卒業後アメリカの大学で言語センター所長を3年ほどしましたが、また今回大好きな日本に戻ることにしました。
言語習得は私の研究テーマですが、趣味でもあります。他の趣味は、折り紙・卓球・旅行です。
I am originally from the state of Michigan in the US. The first time I came to Japan was in 2002, when I spent three months in Fukui Prefecture. After that, I taught English in Tokyo for a few years before returning to the US, where I went to graduate school. I worked as a language center director for a few years, then decided to return to Japan.
Language learning is my personal hobby in addition to my research interest. I also enjoy origami, table tennis, and traveling.

言語学習は一生終わることがありません。英語での会話や読み書き、留学、新しい人との出会いなど、新しい経験すべてに全力で挑戦してください。自分では日々の進歩があまり分からないかもしれませんが、頑張って努力すれば、4年後に達成感を得ることができるでしょう。
Language learning is a lifelong process. Challenge yourself to speak, read, and write in English, to study abroad, to make new friends, and to have new experiences. You may not notice progress each day, but you will be amazed at how far you have come in four years if you keep trying.
