知っておきたい重要なこと！

英語力をつけるには、時間をかけること、しっかりと計画することが重要です。在学中の留学を目指すのであれば、入学当初から準備を始めることが必要です。言語の習得には、異文化も併せて理解することが欠かせません。

京都産業大学には、英語の必修科目以外でも英語を学ぶ機会が豊富にあります。

必修の英語講義以外にも英語を学ぶ様々な科目や、施設があります。自身の英語力にあったサポートを受けましょう。

Outside required courses, KSU provides a wide range of opportunities to learn English.

All KSU students have compulsory English subjects. In addition to these, there are a wide range of courses and facilities for all levels and needs to support you, whatever your plan.

1年生の春学期にしておくべきこと

  • 英語力に自信のある方は、共通教育科目で提供をされている英語講義を履修してみるのがおススメです。※科目を履修するために必要な語学力は必ず事前にシラバスで確認をしておいてください。
  • 英語スコアはあるけど（TOEIC Bridge 140 程度、または、それ以上） 、英語力に自信のもてない方は、春学期に「GJP Introductory Seminar」を履修することをおススメします。 GJP Introductory Seminarは、英語講義履修に必要な英語スキルを身に着けることが出来る科目です（入学時の英語プレイスメントテストで、TOEIC Bridge 140 を取得した学生には履修の案内メールが届きます）。
  • 授業以外にも、英語に触れる機会はたくさんあります。まずは、グローバルコモンズ（GC）のような語学学習施設を積極的に活用しましょう。英語力を楽しみながら身に着けられる多読（GCのスタッフに聞いてみよう！）、いつでも閲覧可能なDVD、英語を実際に使ってみるワークショップなど、自分にあった学習方法を探してみましょう。
    また、本学に来ている留学生のバディとして留学生と交流したり、国際交流サークルに入って実践的に英語を学ぶことも考えられます。

1年生の秋学期〜（2年生の方も）

上記に加えて、外国語学部が提供する特別英語プログラムの授業を履修してみましょう。
特別英語は、英語の4技能（読む・書く・聞く・話す）をバランス良く伸ばすだけでなく、英語でのレポートの書き方、プレゼンテーションの仕方、批判的に考える力など、学ぶために必要な基本的な能力を身につけることを目標としたプログラムです。レベルも、初級から上級クラスまで用意されています。特別英語は、どの学部の学生でも履修可能です。
また、自分の目標達成のためには、どういった勉強をする必要があるのか、先生、国際交流センター・グローバルコモンズのスタッフなどにいろいろと相談をしてみましょう。
大学生活は、自分で色々な選択肢を選ぶことができます。ぜひ、自分の目標達成のために自身に合った学習スタイルを模索してみてください。

In spring of first year

  • If you are very confident and/or have experience studying abroad, you can go straight into a Lecture in English in General Education, but be sure to check the language prerequisites on the syllabus first.
  • If you have a decent level of English ability (for example, TOEIC Bridge 140 or more) but you don’t have confidence in your English or academic skills, then try the spring semester GJP Introductory Seminar. (First year students who have a sufficient score in the TOEIC Bridge placement test will be sent an e-mail advertising this class before classes start in spring.
  • There are also a wide range of outside of class facilities and groups you can use - the Global Commons has books to read (try asking about extensive reading, a great and easy way to improve your English), movies to watch, lots of information to help you get ready to study abroad in addition to workshops and opportunities to speak English.
  • You can also talk to the Center for International Programs about becoming a buddy for an exchange student or join a club or circle which uses English.
  • There are also some elective English classes you can take in General Education covering areas like TOEIC prepartion, skill development and business. However, whether you can take them or not depends on your department, so please check with faculty staff about this option

From the fall of first year and then on, in addition to all of the above, you can start using the Tokubetsu Eigo program (ThE English Program) which is a program offered by the Faculty of Foreign Studies to all students on campus. It includes classes to work on skills (such as reading, writing, listening and speaking), content-based cultural courses, courses for students training to be teachers and an intensive summer program. You can build a program to suit your own needs from a wide range of options.

Look through the GET website, go visit the Global Commons and talk to your teachers about your options. University is about choice and making your own decisions, so it all starts with you!
