International Campus Tour with Riddles

Take 79 KSU Junior High School students, 13 exchange students, a list of riddles and 45mins and you have a campus tour with a twist. This was the scene on campus on October 28.

This two hour afternoon event began with exchange and JH students introducing themselves in small groups telling each other two truths and one lie. Others in the group had to guess which one the lie was.

Each group then set out on a tour of the campus to find the answers to riddles made for different locations around KSU. Some riddles led groups to the Araki Observatory, others to the library, the gymnasium, bus stops and the Global Commons. At the end of the tour, groups gathered back in the Global Commons to make mini presentations about what they had seen.

Today’s event was to provide the JH students with an opportunity to converse with others in English as they prepare for a two week school trip to New Zealand in December. Opportunities for exchange like this are a regular part of the semester program for exchange students at KSU where we believe that study abroad is enhanced by sharing time with people from different sectors of the host community. Up-coming events include a visit to a semi-rural elementary school and a local high school. Check this space for details soon. A number of exchange students have also recently been to a Sumo tournament and will go next week to a Noh and Kyogen theatre production.
