Shizuhara Meets the World

On February 25th and 29th 2016, 4 exchange students from Kyoto Sangyo University and an Internee, Katlin, presented their home countries the grade 6 class at Shizuhara Elementary School.

Topics ranged from bare-footed races across stubble grass (the German “Schaferlauf” festival) to the Canadian cheese, gravy and potato fries food creation known as the “Poutine”.

Altogether the presented countries were Germany, Italy, Canada, Czech Republic and United States. The exchange students took advantage of this opportunity to share their country’s traditions, foods, landscapes, languages etc. with the Japanese school children.

After the presentations the school children had the opportunity to ask questions and reflect on what they learned from the presentations.

The exchange students’ school visit program is an initiative of Principal Mr. Hayashi and supported by the local Board of Education.
