Most universities have a range of skill-related classes, so what is unusual about our program? Here is some information about what makes us different.

Are you intermediate or advanced in your General Education English classes? Do you want to improve your English but you are not sure where to begin? Do you want to study abroad? Then this class is for you – especially if you are not a student in the Faculty of Foreign Studies. It will help you improve all of your English skills as well as academic skills like essay writing and giving presentations, help you understand the Tokubetsu Eigo program and test you to let you know which level of classes to take, and introduce information about study abroad as well as the IELTS test, the most common test of English level for long-term study abroad.

一般敎育英語課目でのレベルは中級や上級ですか？英語力を上達させたいが,どこから始めるべきかよく分かりませんか？留学を考えていますか？特にあなたが外国学部の学生でないならば、このクラスはあなたのためにあります。このクラスでは、あなたの英語力を全体的に上達させ、アカデミックスキル（エッセイの書き方、プレゼンの仕方など）の習得を助けます。また、留学に不可欠なIELTS英語力試験の情報を紹介し、特別英語プログラムの理解を助ける事であなたの英語レベルを確認することが出来ます。

We have a wide range of subjects to support you both before and after study abroad including one credit classes on English speaking countries as well as European and Asian area studies to help you decide where to go, and two credit more academic classes to learn more in depth about the places you studied abroad. In addition to those, there are a series of classes to help students prepare for and reflect on their study abroad experience such as Long-Term Study Abroad Preparation :

留学先を決定する判断材料となる英語圏、ヨーロッパ、そしてアジアの国々について学ぶクラス（1単位）や、留学した国についてより深く、アカデミックに学ぶクラス（2単位）など、留学前と留学後に役立つ科目を幅広く用意しています。これらに加えて、留学準備クラスや留学の総括を行うクラスも設けています。

留学生活を充実した実り多いものにするために、長期留学を予定している学生が留学準備を円滑に進めることを目的とした科目です。留学先の国や文化についてのプレゼンテーションや、留学先で履修する科目についての下調べやディスカッションが中心です。また、日本と留学先の文化の違い、海外で起こりうる問題への対処法、留学までにできる自宅での学習法など、幅広いトピックを扱います。これらの活動を通して、海外での授業に対応できる会話力を身につけ、自信を持って留学に挑めるようになることが目標です。

Not only do we have student-centered active classes to help you at all levels of all four skills - reading, speaking, listening and writing - as well as presentation and debate skills, we also have classes such as Introduction to Extensive Reading：

レベル分けされた受講生主体の活動的なクラスです。英語の4技能（リーディング、スピーキング、リスニング、ライティング）を伸ばすクラス以外にも、プレゼンテーションやディスカッション、また多読の入門クラスなどがあります。

多読学習法を用いた日本人講師による週１回の授業です。英文を日本語に訳すことなく、大意をつかみながら流暢に読めるようになることが目標です。授業では、英語を母国語としない学習者向けの図書や英語を母国語とする子供向けの簡単でページ数の少ない図書から始め、徐々にレベルとスピードを上げ、より難しく語数の多い本を読む練習を行います。これまでの英語教育で慣れ親しんできた訳読法とは異なる効果的な読み方を習得することができます。

With academic classes covering Social Sciences, Humanities and Natural Sciences in reading skills, a range of area studies classes such as European Studies, and a series of English lecture courses providing students with a bridge to faculty English-taught courses, ThE English Program helps ease your path into academic learning in English of a range of subjects and fields.

社会科学、人文学、自然科学のリーディングスキルを磨くクラス以外にも、ヨーロッパの国々について学ぶクラス、英語で行われる各学部の専門科目の履修準備となる英語講義クラスなど、様々な教科や分野を英語でアカデミックに学ぶサポートをします。

ヨーロッパ諸国に共通するテーマや、その歴史、文化、文学における国際化の影響に焦点を当てながら、各国に関する知識をさらに深めることを目的とした中級・上級者向けの授業です。ゼミ形式で行われる授業では、各トピックに関連した大衆文化（ニュース、音楽、映画）を切り口に、アカデミックな視点から内容を深く掘り下げて行きます。講義の内容に関連する文献を読んだり、学んだ内容の要約やそれに対する意見を英語でエッセイにまとめたり、グループワークやグループ発表を通して様々な課題に取り組んでいきます。
