INFORMATION FACILITIES

Computerizing Educational Environment and the Entire Student Life

Ahead of other universities in Japan, Kyoto Sangyo University pioneered the establishment of the Computer Center (now the Center for Information Technology) in 1966. We have steadily adopted the latest information processing facilities since the establishment of the information education building (No.10 Building) in 1999. An innovative and exemplary information education system has been built up within the university under Windows and Linux environments, fully equipping not only information processing classrooms and general classrooms but also student dormitories and club activity rooms with computer facilities.

A Bold and Challenging Approach for Computerization

In 1999, we became the first university in the world to mass-adopt open source Linux, which was not widely used at that time. At present, we have more than 1600 educational computers operating with a technology that requires only a small number of people to keep them maintained.

A Fully-Equipped Internet Environment

In 2005, wireless LAN was deployed throughout the campus in addition to the wall sockets provided in every building, enabling students to access the internet any time and anywhere on campus.

Efforts for Establishing an e-University

We have adopted an open source learning management system, "moodle", which enables the computerization of communication between teachers and students, such as distributing teaching materials and submitting student reports.

A Permanent Support System for Utilizing Information Processing Facilities

We have a permanent consultation counter, where volunteer students give guidance and advice regarding computers and networks on campus.
