Objective

The objective of the center is to support faculty members in order to bring excellence to education of all faculties including Faculty Development (FD).

Organization

In order to discuss action policies and the overall management of the center, the 'Education Excellence Support Center Steering Committee' was established. The 'FD Promotion Committee' was established specifically to discuss the content and the method of the implementation of Faculty Development.

Content of activity

'Mutual Assessment of Classes' Questionnaire
The center conducts a mutual assessment of classes twice a year by way of a questionnaire. The assessment provides students with an opportunity to express their opinions and requests about classes, enabling faculty members to address student issues and in turn improve on existing teaching methods and enhance the students' learning experience.

All-campus Open Class Week
As a means to build student motivation and effectiveness of learning, the center provides 'All-campus Open Class Week', which offers an opportunity for each faculty member to share the useful teaching skills developed with all other faculty members.

Education Program Support System
This system was established so as to create a new education program to share and develop within the campus. Faculty members are invited to submit ideas for an education program, of which outstanding ones will be implemented by the university with support from this system.

FD Workshop for new faculty members
Workshops are provided at the beginning of each new school year for newly employed faculty members to provide them with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of diverse activities of the university's FD. Two months after classes commence an opinion sharing meeting is held as a follow-up to the earlier work shops.

Newsletter
The center publishes a newsletter about four times a year to broadly transmit its recent activity. Newsletters are also posted on the Internet.

Publishing a university edition of 'Teaching Tips'
"Tips for Better Teaching-An endeavor of Kyoto Sangyo University-" is published mainly through the initiative of the FD Promotion Committee based on the efforts of our faculty members to improve teaching effectiveness.
