Research Overview

The term "business model" is a buzzword that appears everywhere in newspapers and magazines these days. In my research, I investigate the degree to which a company's business model confers competitive advantage on it. In the field of management strategy, researchers have typically focused on the characteristics of individual management resources and the competitive advantages they confer; interrelations among various resources, and their behavior as a system, on the other hand, are seldom studied. The aim of my research is to help fill this void.
Specific topics I am working on at present are the business models of Johnny & Associates, Inc. (a talent agency), Shonen Jump (a weekly manga comic book) and the Shiki Theatre Company. Through this research, I aim to unlock the secret to turning out consistent hits in industries where success is usually considered highly uncertain and even a matter of luck.
