In recent years, sensor networks using low power long-distance wireless systems, such as Lora or SIGFOX, have been attracting increased attention. Our research team has also built sensor networks by taking advantage of MAD-SS (Mathematical Assist Design Laboratory's Spectrum Spread) using the high-speed synchronization method, which is one of the narrowband spectrum spread communication methods. MAD-SS is a kind of direct sequence spread spectrum. The spectrum spread communication provides high resistance against radio noise, and easily avoids fading influences. Also, it can realize low power and long-distance transmission by utilizing process gains. Our communication system has succeeded in communicating for over 10 kilometers with a radio wave equivalent to the wireless LAN (Fig.1). As such, since low power long-distance communication has become available outdoors, we can now use its technology to establish various application systems.
