IJP Study Tour to Kyotango Region

Through the volunteer management of NPO Kitakinki Mirai and the financial support of the Kyoto Prefectural Government, 18 Kyoto Sangyo University Intensive Japanese Language & Culture Program (IJP) and exchange students ventured for the weekend July 12 – 13, 2014 into the Kyotango Region to gain a taste of Japanese rural life. During the tour students made Barazushi and enjoyed an onsen at Hotel Centrale, printed designs onto bags at the Omiya Kobo Craft Center, were warmly hosted by Kayayamanoie, tried their hand at silk weaving at Kinu no Gallery, enjoyed lunch at the Hashidate Winery and viewed Amanohashidate from Kasamatsu Park. While at the Hashidate Winery, the Mayor of Yosano Cho, Mr. Toma Yamazoe also kindly called in for a meet and greet.

The students on this current IJP program have come from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, Poland and Fujen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan. They were joined by exchange students from China, Mexico, the USA and Poland. Due to the favourable response to Kyotango Tours, it is hoped that we can continue to share with our international students aspects of traditional Japanese rural life.
