The educational aim of this faculty is to train students capable of advancing the internationalization of cultures and at the same time help students develop into persons of character in the spirit in which the university was founded and based on the school's educational ideas.
In the Department of Intercultural Studies, students work to attain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture including the culture of Kyoto City where the university is located, and the cultures of various regions and racial groups of the world. Thinking about uniqueness and universality of cultures together with their social and historical backgrounds will provide students with an in-depth understanding of how they look at and think about various issues. We believe that individuals with a broad knowledge base and flexible judgment will take an active role in this rapidly globalizing and information-oriented society.
Our education emphasizes the following five points :
1. Instilling a Global Cultural Viewpoint :

In our modern society, there are a large number of issues that must be addressed on a global scale, including those of peace and the environment. The faculty aims to instill a global cultural viewpoint that will allow students to think about those global issues with an appreciation of multiple perspectives.
2. Pursuing a New View of Asia :
Cultural exchange can sometimes cause international misunderstandings. We aim to produce individuals withthe ability to build up an interactive relationship (through mutual understanding and exchange) between different cultures in the international community based on a deep knowledge and concern about global issues.
